Expectations: General

Each session is one trimester long. In that time, you are expected to work at improving your keyboarding skills, and improving your skills and knowledge about different computer applications.

To become a computer tutor in the school, you are required to demonstrate that you are able to use computer software to its full advantage to help in the learning of yourself, your peers and the school community.

Projects:

  • For each trimester, choose 2 of the available modules - Repetition of a module may only be granted by the teacher. Those doing large projects, such as web design, my be expected to complete only 2 modules.

  • Plans for all projects (web design, multimedia, independent projects) must be submitted in writing through a log entry and O.K'd be the teacher before you start.

  • If you are considering doing an independent project, a written proposal must be submitted to the teacher (see instructions).

Expectations: Specific

  • Keyboarding: 10 minutes at the beginning of each class = 20% of final grade
  • Projects: two projects per trimester = 60% of final grade
  • Tutor skills: success at collaboration, on-task behaviour and leadership and log entry = 20% of final grade.

Log:

On a regular basis you will be required to hand in a log or journal entry into the teacher's "drop box".

The first entry in your log will be the date and answers to the following questions:

  • what do you like about using a computer?
  • do you have a computer at home, and what do you use it for?
  • is there something that you would like to learn about using a computer?
  • how do you think you can use a computer to learn, both in computer class and in your regular classes?

You will be requested to send in a log to the drop box on an occasional basis.

The main purpose of keeping a log is that you spend time thinking about

  • what you need to know to do the project to the best of you abilities?
  • how are you going to demonstrate your understanding and skills to best advantage?
  • what resources do you need to accomplish your project?
  • what tasks do you need to perform to accomplish your project?
  • what are the important tasks that need to be accomplished during each class?
  • how should my partner and I plan our time and divide up the tasks?
  • how will my final work be judged? What can we add to the rubric that will make it more valid to our project?

Use this log to also ask questions that have not been covered in class
